I’m Starting to Forget

There’s a story, once shared during a talk by Dr. Wayne Dyer, about a toddler saying to its infant sibling, “Tell me about God… I’m starting to forget.”

But, what is it exactly that we have forgotten?

We seem to do pretty well remembering to pay our bills; getting dressed; brushing our teeth… showering every day.  So, why is it that so many “struggle” with remembering that we are Divine Beings?  Why do we struggle in remembering our Divine birth rights… such as abundance, unconditional love (for self and others), and prosperity?

We learn very early in life how to act, what to say (or not to say), how to be, but oftentimes lessons on how to be authentic and true to ourselves is somehow left out of those teachings.  All too often, we look outside ourselves for answers, or we may make mountains out of molehills trying to determine what the “right” answer should be.

We may become frustrated when others tell us to quiet our minds, and we think, “Seriously? My mind can’t be quiet!”  We’re told to meditate and connect with our hearts, but the frustration may intensify when the way others are doing it simply doesn’t work… for us.

While we’re busy “finding ourselves”, we forget that there’s really nothing to be found.

Remembering that we’re always connected to God/Source/All That Is/The Divine shouldn’t be something that brings angst.  This remembrance should be liberating and offer us a sense of peace and inner calm.

When we choose to forget, we choose to ignore the knowingness that when life shows up, it does so for good reason.

When we choose to forget, life will seem challenging and difficult.  Tension, worry, and fear will be constant companions, and our thoughts will seem like a broken record…

“When will this get better?”

“Why does this keep happening to me?”

“When will this get better?”

“Why does this keep happening to me?”

“When will this get better?”

“Why does this keep happening to me?”… on and on and on it goes.

Like the little reminders we once wrapped around our fingers, children give us the “hows” we desperately seek. When we watch children at play, we see souls that are uninhibited, joyful, so completely in the moment.

We also get to watch the playground “dramas” unfold and the rather quick resolutions that follow.  They seek out fun wherever they are…

Children give us many opportunities to change how we feel about life.  Through them, we’re given valuable nuggets to chew on and, hopefully, integrate into our own interactions with others.

Children help us to see the wonder in everything, and their curiosity about life is rather contagious.  They laugh when they hear, or see something silly, and a lot of times, they don’t really care what others think about them.

Sure, they ask a ton of questions, but isn’t knowledge… power?

So, the next time life shows up, simply ask… “What would a child do?”, and right then and there, you would have remembered all there is to remember… in that moment.
