I have often succumbed to the “deliciousness” of Oreo Cookies, Cheetos, Doritos, Dr. Pepper, Haagen Dazs, and countless others. Additionally, I have supported companies that offer various services — that degrade resources needed to sustain life on this plane(t) — all in the name of convenience.
In the past few months, I have been taking a serious look at where I am choosing to invest my ‘money’, and what I am willing to sacrifice in the name of “taste”… and convenience.
I used to buy food from Annie’s® Organic Foods until they called it quits on our relationship by taking a $820M deal with General Mills. This heartache then prompted me to dive deeper, and I learned that other brands I once thought were “better” were actually creations of Big Food. Brands like Organic Valley, Kashi, Horizon Organics. All created to give consumers the illusion that we are choosing better for ourselves when all the while we are supporting the very companies that do not care about our well-being.
Then Applegate Farms stabbed me in the back by marrying Hormel’s for $775M. UGH!
But it’s not just Big Food that’s raping humanity and Terra.
Amazon is also a serious offender. Although, they possess the financial means to reduce their impact via clean energy, they have been really slow to convert, or even be open to the discussion.
These companies have created challenges that too many of us are choosing to ignore and never question, even though, movies and documentaries have been trying for years to awaken us to the truth.
An Inconvenient Truth.
Take Back Your Power
A Fierce Green Fire
Even through the availability of these films, people still choose to remain ignorant and offer their devout faith and trust in a dismissive and ridiculously wealthy group who wipes their arses on us every day.
Humanity’s greed and ignorance is leading us to a world that will be unable to sustain us or ANY life!
That Arctic circle is not going to stay up forever if we continue in the direction we are going. It’s going to keep melting the hotter it gets, and I don’t know about you, but I can only tread water for so long.
We need to wake up.
We need to stop making choices that go against nature.
Terra is all we have, and…
If we continue to treat her as poorly as we have been then…
There will be nothing left because…
“Earth is a closed system. There’s nowhere to go.” –Bill Nye
And there will be no one who will save us when she dies!
Now, I will leave you with this thought-provoking quote from John Carpenter’s They Live (1988) to ponder.
“The poor and the underclass are growing. Racial justice and human rights are non-existent. They have created a repressive society, and we are their unwitting accomplices”
