When Bigotry Blinds

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Adonya

When I was 21 years old, serving this country and protecting the liberties many take for granted, a man looked me in my eyes, and stated he would not come into the home I was visiting… because I was there.

He went on to tell me that “my kind” was not even worthy of stepping foot on the property of his beloved (racist) Moose Lodge; that I was essentially less than.

Naturally, I was taken aback by his words because I had never been treated in this way. No one had ever treated me differently because of the color of my skin.

What was even more shocking is this happened on a military base. Here I was protecting this son of a bitch’s rights to spew those hateful words from his mouth, and he was put off by me!

White (aka  “better than“) was all his narrow eyes could see and his narrow mind could process!

What the f**k?!?

Hey ass-wipe! My ancestors did not ask to be stolen from this land. They were forced onto ships, thrown below the decks, treated as cargo, and sold as property!

They did not have the privilege of voluntarily leaving their homes like your ancestors.

They did, however, make your f**king life possible because of the sacrifices they made.

Their greatest sacrifice?  It was their sense of self. It fell to the wayside whenever one of your ancestors beat and/or raped them.

Their sacrifices also made it possible for me to have a better life. Therefore, my right to be here is MORE VALID than yours!

That was 1989!

Here we are pulling in 2016, and not much has changed.

People of Color are still having a time being seen as equal.

Mexicans (or anyone identifying as Latino/a) are still having a time being seen as equal.

Now, anyone identifying as Muslim is being seen as the enemy. Regardless of their views; the close-minded ones only see hate and terror.

I cannot help but think of the Syrians who, wanting a better life, are being shunned because they are Muslim (aka not White or Christian).

I cannot help but think of how un-American it is to turn one’s back on someone who is fleeing his or her country for a better life… when this country was founded for the same reason.

All of this bigotry, so the ones doing the bitching and moaning can continue to call themselves, Christians!

What. the. f**k?!?

To all the haters… have any of you actually read the book you hold so dear to your hearts, or did you just skip over the parts that were convenient to your argument?

Is being a good person only apply on Sundays?

Here is a little reminder … from the good book:

1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-8

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Hmm… I somehow think you skipped those verses entirely!

You speak of love and seeing the Light, however, it is your bigotry that has blinded you!

SIDEBAR: I love it when my Shadow rears its head because I am reminded of my humanness as well as my intolerance for bullshit. I am reminded that although being all Love and Light and what-not is the “preferred” way of being … I also have the power (and Will) to stand up whenever shit is going sideways. This world does not belong to anyone, so we need to stop f**kin’ acting like it does.

[If you are offended by this post then you are part of the problem. This post is directed at those who see the color of their skin and their beliefs as being more valid/worthy than others of “lesser quality”. It is ALSO directed at anyone whose mind and heart are closed… regardless of the color of your skin.]
